Altos Launches Live Scoring Microsite for Black Ice Pond Hockey Tournament

It’s hard to believe, but the backyard past time of pond hockey has gone main stream.  In New Hampshire alone there are at least 5 organized tournaments this winter.  The folks from the Black Ice Tournament approached us with a unique problem.  They wanted a way to have live scoring at the event in a mobile friendly format.

Our developers created a responsive microsite that fans and players could use to navigate the event.  The true genius of the project is in the interface that powers the site.  The organizers and volunteers didn’t have the time to learn a complicated CMS.  The brilliance is in the simplicity, we used Google Calendar to power the interface.  Our developers used the API for Google Calendar and adapted to fit our specific needs.  Now anyone could update scores, rink locations, and matchups in real time.

With sub-freezing temps and sunshine the tournament was a rousing success.  Having the microsite enhanced the fan experience for those in attendance and those who were checking in from the comfort of their couches.
