The Charge: Bringing Hockey Everywhere

The Black Ice Pond Hockey tournament in Concord, NH is one of the largest in the state. With over 50 teams competing in 6 divisions the tournament draws hundreds of players and fans each year. Black Ice came to us with a unique challenge; they wanted to have the scores of each game update instantly on their website. This posed two challenges, how to create an interface to upload the data, and how to display the information to people on both mobile devices and desktop machines.

A Creative Solution

A Creative Solution

Our developers came up with a creative solution to the interface issue. By using existing technology from Google we were able to take a familiar back end interface, Google Calendar, and translate it to a simple format for the end user. Once the score sheets are turned in the administrators can update the Google Calendars and the changes are reflected on the site instantly. This can be done from multiple computers simultaneously, or even mobile devices.

Hockey On the Go

Hockey On the Go

The main focus of our design efforts was creating a site that would work seamlessly on mobile devices. Creating a mobile user experience was a key focus given to us by the organizers. Players need to know what rink they are playing on next, fans at the games want to know in real time how the tourney is going.  All while making the info accessible for fans who are unable to attend in person. Having a responsive site was the only option for this project. The user interface is easily accessible to anyone and everyone who want to check in on the action.
